The Special Event
The laughter was all around the room as the special event unfolded. To me it was just another high school senior session, not unlike so many others that I had done before. But there was something different happening here. I could see the love in her mother’s eyes as she moved around the room. I felt the bond that had grown these eighteen years. I was caught up in the feeling of pride the mother had, as she talked about the accomplishments that had marked the passage of time, and realized how important these portraits were to them. I guess that over the years I had grown accustomed to photographing these kids, never taking the time to reflect on the reason they were in the studio. I realized that it wasn’t about speed or time, or even money, it was about capturing the personalities of the senior and recording them forever. It was about relationships, not just between the two of them, but I was now part of their experiences in life. What an awesome though, that I, as a photographer, could make the Difference in other peoples lives.
